The California "Mini" update by JR Stafford:
Just days before our Mini Reunion, Ed Gardini posted a marvelous pictorial tour of the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the website and if you've not seen the pictures and heard the music, it's well worth a look. Kudos Ed, and thanks for the warm up for our Mini.
This year's California Mini Reunion was held on Saturday, March 3, 2007. The weather was terrific and company was outstanding, as usual. Tigers from the Central Valley, Sacramento, and San Francisco Bay Area met at the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Sacramento for our annual "Mini" Reunion. (Pictures are posted on the site.)
It's always good to gather and renew old friendships and this year was no exception. Some of our number attend the annual Reunions held around the country, and some faithfully attend the "Mini" Reunion. Whichever one you choose, (or both for that matter), attending one or the other is a great way to keep in touch with members of the Heritage Association.
This year, Ed Gardini also acted as our Chaplain as the group (including Vera Cahill and Miki Gardini), remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom. I always reconnect with that time in my life a long time ago, when visiting the memorial, and being with friends and fellow Tigers makes it a special day...one I look forward to, every year. Thanks for being there again this year Tigers.
Lunch afterward is also always special as the mood lightens, and barbs, and good natured jabs are exchanged over a terrific meal at the Hyatt Hotel, located just a short walk away. This year was no different. Amid the jokes, we were all somewhat taken aback when Larry Cahill announced he was also in the running for fatherhood of Anna Nichol Smith's baby, but Vera just smiled her knowing smile and let Larry continue to "sweat" that pesky paternity suit. (Brigitte smiles at me that way too. Do you suppose they have us figured out, Larry?)
Make plans to join us again next year in Sacramento. It's fun and Larry promises to have the new baby there for pictures.

Washington, DC, Reunion Update:
As of March 12, 2007 we have processed twenty-five (25) reunion packages and I'm aware of many others out there who have booked their hotel rooms for the October 11-14 Annual Reunion.
Among the highlights for Friday, October 12th, includes a visit to the Vietnam Memorial in the morning and we're scheduled for a Wreath Laying at 3:15 PM at the Tomb of the Unknowns. For those of you who have not visited the "Wall," or have never witnessed the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the unknowns, this promises to be a very moving day.
Please remember that this is a package was put together with you in mind, and I know of no plans to visit Washington, DC, again as a large group in the future. Here's what may be our last chance to be among Tigers, family and close friends and participate in some very special events in October. Make your plans to join us.
Senator John McCain's staff is handling our White House and Capitol tours on Saturday, October 13. The times are not set for these two tours, but they'll both be in the morning. We'll visit the new US Air Force Memorial that afternoon.
Tigers, I'm processing reunion packages every week, and look forward to seeing old friends and new attendees' paperwork cross my desk. As Probationary Assistant Event Coordinator, (Probie EC), I'm happy to answer your questions or concerns. Remember friends and family are always welcome to join us. This year Sepelaks, and Cahills are bringing friends, and Mike & Linda Gilkerson are bringing daughter Dawn. We've had the pleasure of seeing Eddie Brown's Mom and Dad in the past and Richard (Clyde and Margaret's boy), too. Don't be shy, bring friends and family, they'll be shocked to learn you were respectable once upon a time!
Seriously, please send your checks and information in and let’s build the reunion attendance to over one hundred (100) again this year. Give me a call at (650) 224-5900 and we'll chat.
